For me a web developer is a person or a company who pretty much knows everything about the internet. From technical coding and hacking to social media sites and SEO, they can pretty much do it all.

More often than not you will find that a true “web developer” is made up of a team or a company such as RT Design Group. It would be very difficult for one person to have all the knowledge that a team of people have. At RT Design everyone has their own specialty. We have one person that does only graphic design, one who does SEO and SEM, one who does PHP coding, and so on down the line. So when you come to us with a request or a need 9 times out of 10 we have a specialist on the team that knows exactly what to do. When you combine all these specialist into one group you have a very potent team of web developers.

RT Design, unlike many local web developers in Naples and Fort Myers, do not act like shady used car salesmen and try to pressure you into a deal. We find one of the best ways to secure a sale is to allow the potential client to come into our offices and take a tour, see us working and be introduced to everyone. As you walk down our long hallway towards our large conference room you are greeted by different people. The first door on the left is our PHP guy, we call him Wood but his real name is Ryan Underwood. Because the boss and him share the same first name we decided to call him “Wood” to avoid in office confusion.

Next door to Wood is Brian, he’s the guy who sends out paychecks and the one we have to beg when we need some money to spend on something. As you walk down the hallway you meet other people from SEO to graphic, sales, CEO, and more. When you get to the end of the hallway the last two doors are inhabited by Mike, our video guy. In that room you will see he has his greenroom setup for making commercials and doing video walkouts. You may have seen some of RT’s commercials on WINK News, those were made right in that room.

I guess I’m starting to babble on so I’ll go ahead and end this blog post here. Just remember that if you’re looking for a Naples Web Developer you should at the very least stop by our offices and meet everyone.

In a previous article, I talked about how you could get a banner made and purchase advertising on other sites with your banner. This is a great way of getting traffic; however, what happens if you spend $200 on an ad and only get 100 clicks. If you think about it, you just spent $2.00 per click. That’s a lot of money for a lot of niches, so it might not be a good move for you to advertise your site that way. There is hope, though. You could advertise using Google Adwords to get the traffic to your site. It may be a little more expensive, but you’re only going to pay if someone comes to your site.

The best way to use Google Adwords is to go back to that list of keywords that you decided you want to rank for. Until you’re on the front page of Google, the only way to really get the traffic from Google is to pay for these ads. So, if you’re trying to rank for the keyword politics, you may not be on the front page, but you could set up an Adwords account and start to get people clicking on your ads. You would decide how much a click is worth and go from there. Here’s how to get it all started:

Pick your keywords. Figure out which ones you want to have your ads appear on. Politics, for this article, is the keyword.

Start writing interesting web copy for the keyword. “Up to date news on politics as well as commentary about all issues in politics.” That is an example. As you can see, it makes people think and want to know more.

Set your maximum bid. You don’t want to spend $5.00 for a click. So, you may set it small at first and see how many clicks you get. Google shows ads based on how much the ad is worth. The more expensive it is, the more it’ll appear, but the more it’ll cost. You can always change your bid and raise it if you’re not getting the correct traffic.

Observe. It is important to pay attention to the traffic. If you are getting a lot of traffic at $1.00 a click, you may want to see if you can lower it to $0.50 a click. If you are still getting a lot, see if you can go lower. It is your job to try and find that happy middle so that each click is not breaking the bank.

The people that come to your site from Google Adwords are going to be interested in those keywords so, in turn, will be more likely to become a customer. This is a better and worse method than banner advertising because it can be more expensive, but on the flip side, it is a lot more targeted. Try both for your marketing campaign.

This might seem like a really easy thing to do, but in truth, it’s not. Figuring out what style of colors you want is something that could be one of the hardest things to do in the first stages of development. However, finding the colors that work for your site is really an important thing to do.

The good news is you can contact a graphic design group and ask them what they suggest. Chances are, it’ll turn in to a very successful agreement where they’ll develop the site for you. However, what they’ll be able to do is help you figure out which colors are best. For example, do you want blues and greys or do you want reds and blacks? Or, do you want to mix a little bit of brown and green to give it that slight outdoors look to it? If you’re not a designer, it can be really difficult and intimidating to deal with all these questions.

Here are a few rules to keep in mind when you’re dealing with colors. They’re not always the rules, but nine times out of ten, they’re a safe bet and a good way of determining what is and what isn’t. Here they are:

If you’re going to use a dark background, such as a dark blue, dark grey, or a dark black, you need to have a color that offsets it well. Don’t use yellow because yellow contrasts too much with most colors. Try a white, cream, or light grey to be used for the wording.

The more color on a site, the brighter it appears, the better. However, that doesn’t mean have a rainbow on the site. What it means is that you need to make the site brighter. Lighter colors with a darker text is better because it appears “happier.”

With the understanding of a site looking happier…Blues are easier on the eyes than reds. When someone sees something red, naturally, it’s a stimulant. Blues are more of a depressant. This doesn’t mean that looking at a blue site will make the reader depressed. It doesn’t trigger some sort of a mental discomfort like a red might.

These are just three of the many rules out there about coloring. Do you use a light grey or a dark grey? Do you use blue or green? There are so many questions that you can ask, it can definitely lead to an overload. Your best bet is to sit down with a designer and explain what your needs are. They’ll be able to suggest what colors to use and how to make the site look the best possible. So, call your designer.

– E-mail archiving is a systematic approach to saving and protecting the data contained in e-mail messages so it can be accessed quickly at a later date. In the past, companies often relied on end-users to maintain their own individual e-mail archives. The IT department would back up e-mail, but not in a manner that made messages searchable. If a specific e-mail needed to be traced, it often took weeks to find it. With today’s compliance legislation and legal discovery rules, it has become necessary for many IT departments to manage the entire company’s e-mail archiving in bulk so specific messages can be located in minutes, not weeks.

Policy-based e-mail archiving software applications allow IT managers to manage large e-mail archives, as well as to free up space on production servers and speed up backup times. These applications typically include indexing and search capabilities, access logs to provide a “virtual paper trail” in the event an e-mail is subpoenaed, and a lifecycle management component, which acts as kind of a traffic cop for all e-mail coming in to the company. The life cycle management component uses rules set up by the administrator. It will classify which e-mail messages need to be archived, migrate the messages to the most economical and efficient storage media, and automatically delete messages when they are no longer needed.

So I’ve removed the WordPress theme we had up. The untitled project domain is banned in Google. I remember from last month when we started this it was not showing up even for a direct search of the domain. Since it hadn’t been used for anything I just assumed it was because Google didn’t have it indexed. So 3 or 4 weeks later I started to notice some of our other sites dropping. As I was sitting here looking at the site trying to figure out why they dropped from the SERPs, I remembered untitled project. A quick search confirmed that it was indeed banned. I removed the links pointing from here to there and the Fort Myers site came back within a few hours…still waiting on this one.

I personally didn’t like the wood background, I wanted something more along the lines of the design found at Firewall Script which is one of Dan’s sites but he thought this would be better and since he’s sort of above me I didn’t argue. If I really wanted to fight it, I could have probably gotten the BG changed but it didn’t seem like that big a deal, plus the design looks better every time I see it.

The navigation is not decided upon yet, the links you see in the design are just temporary. We also still need to get the copy written for the main page and all sub pages, haven’t decided yet if I will be doing that or if we will hire a writer. Hiring a writer would clearly get us nicer text because my writing skills are pretty lousy but we are trying to not spend anymore money that we have to, lots of money has already been spent thus far. It wouldn’t be so bad except for the way the economy is right now, money is starting to dry up for most people and companies, we are no exception.

So I was just talking with my partner Dan about a “pricing page” and if we should have one or not. Another friend of mine who owns a cabinet company always told me how bad pricing pages were, never really said WHY they were bad, just that they were no good. Perhaps they’re no good in the cabinetry niche, but is it the same for all niches? I see lots of web design companies who have package and price pages. Dan didn’t really have an opinion on the matter, neither do I.

Perhaps we will try it out when the design is done and see if it works.
