Google updates PageRank
December 31 2008Yep, Google updated their PageRank sometime last night to the delight of webmasters worldwide. PageRank is one of the most asked about topics on webmaster forums. Sometimes I think Google created PR to keep newbie and even seasoned webmasters and SEOers off balance. In reality Google PR doesn’t mean anything. You can very easily outrank a PR5 site with a PR1 site. Let’s see if we can find an example.
If you search Google for “naples web design” you can clearly see a PR6 site down the list about halfway, being out ranked by PR5’s and lower. Here’s a picture of the result, as you can see this PR6 is easily beaten by PR2’s. So then why all the fuss of PR you ask? I don’t know.
So should you be worried about PR? I’d say no, not really. It’s always nice to have some PR, sort of like a visual indicator that Google approves of what you’re doing. In reality though PR is meaningless. I’ve seen PR0’s and PR1’s with Google authority or sitelinks. By Google giving sitelinks to PR0’s and PR1’s they’re basically telling you straight up that PageRank means nothing. So my advice is to stop focusing on PageRank and worry more about other factors.
