Sometimes words just aren’t enough to capture the attention of an audience. Business has known this for years and spawned a whole industry around it and called it ‘Branding’. A logo, or brand is an instantly recognizable facet of any business. Think of any of the major worldwide brands you know and there will be an element of this in all of them. either from a distinctive font design like Coca-Cola to the golden arches of McDonalds.
When a business wants its own brand it turns to a graphic designer with a brief to create one. The designer then researches the company, its intended audience or demographic, the brief and any other influence they use. Once all this information is gathered the designer will generally create two or three black and white designs and submit them to the client for review. Once feedback is received from the client it is integrated into the final design. Color is added and any other finishing touches before being returned to the client for final review.
The finished product should reflect the character of the business and where they want to be. It should also appeal to the chosen audience but not alienate any others. Art is subjective, and graphic design is an art. that is why it’s important to have a complete brief and ongoing consultation with the client during the process.
