Five years ago, you’d never imagine that bloggers would be a growing mainstream source of information to the web. However, it is 2009 now and millions of blogs are on the web and more are being added every day. Most of these are spammy blogs that serve no purpose; however, there are some that are really great that provide a ton of information. With blogs becoming bigger and bigger, companies are now posting blog sections on their website as a means of providing information and staying in contact with their visitors to ensure that their visitor has every bit of information they need.

So, the question obviously comes up: should I or should I not add a blog to my company website? That is entirely up to you. Here is what a blog is useful for:

Posting information that is up to date about your company. Just opened a new dealership somewhere? Post a blog post that says, “Check us out!”

Write an article a week that is about your company’s niche. Answer a problem. If your company provides car parts, talk about a different product in each article. Use specific keywords in the article.

Answer specific questions you may get. Someone may send you an e-mail with a question. You can turn around and instead of just answering the question, if it is one that might be a general one that many people would have, you could post the answer as a blog post.

Keep everyone aware about what’s going on. Duh!

Are any of these something that you have run into with your company? If that is the case, consider getting a blog for your company. It’s really easy. You’ll want to install Wordpress onto your company. The URL should look like this: companyname.com/blog. Don’t do anything over the top. A simple /blog makes things easy for the visitor to realize what is going on.

What is tremendously important is having a theme that fits with your site design. If you’re going to get a new site made and want to add a blog simultaneously, if you contact your local Naples Web Development studio, they’ll be able to create a design that is cohesive for both the website and the blog. That way, it doesn’t look like you went from one site to the next if you just went from the static website to the blog.

Having a blog on your company website is a great idea. Companies like IBM, Google, and so many others do it. It keeps people posted about your information and is a great way to get more recognition. One final reason that is great is that Google LOVES blogs. They index blogs really fast. So, this could be another fantastic way of sending traffic to your site.

Search engines love content, new and unique content specifically. The easiest way for you to get some love from the search engines is to make new content. Preferably this should be done on your own domain but if you don’t have a company domain you can use a variety of free blogging services, here are a few for you to use…

blogger

wordpress

live journal

Here’s a short video on how to create a free blogger blog:

I would definitely recommend getting your own domain, it’s a tiny bit more expensive than free, but not much. Figure $10 a year for the domain and a few bucks per month on hosting. It will give you much more control over your site and most importantly YOU will own it, not Google or WordPress, or whoever you decide to use for your free blog hosting.

You can always contact us and we can do everything for you as well

So anyhow, here is the first video in the video blog series. I’ll definitely be adding more but I need to figure out a different desktop recorder to use, or maybe I just need to adjust the settings on CamStudio? I’ll figure it out.
