Have you ever seen or heard the term “SEO hosting“? It’s not a very well-known term outside the SEO circles but some people believe deeply in it, including me. Nobody except the Google engineers and programmers know for sure if it works but by my own trials and tests I’d say it definitely has a fairly large effect. In fact, this site you’re on right now is hosted on SEO hosting and the week I moved it over to this hosting setup the site shot up in the rankings for various search terms.

The main idea with SEO hosting is that it enables you to get links from other sites you own. So if you own, say, 50 sites and all 50 of those sites link to a selected website it’s great for SEO, right? Well, many people in SEO think that Google takes into consideration the C-Class IP the sites are hosted on and if they are all hosted on the same IP Google takes that into consideration and either discounts the links or possibly even penalizes you in cases where there are large link networks going on.

This idea, or paranoia, depending on whom you ask, has spawned what we now call “SEO Hosting”. It’s a bit more expensive than the normal flavor of hosting that many of us are used to but depending on your needs it may just be worth it.

Have you ever heard or seen the term “SEO Hosting“? It’s a relatively new phrase when compared to how long normal web hosting has been around. For those of you who don’t know, a paranoid SEOer or a brilliant marketer came up with the term after claiming that Google took into consideration the C-Class IP of a website when counting their backlinks.

Let me try to make it simple…

If a website has 5 backlinks pointing at their site from 5 different domains but 3 of those backlinks are coming from websites that share the same C-Class IP then Google will take that into account and they will:

discount all of the links that share the same IP

hand out some sort of penalty to some or all of the sites involved in the linking scheme

completely ignore the links, no penalties but no benefit for any of the sites involved rendering the entire process a complete waste of time

Only Google engineers and SEOers with intimate contacts inside Google know the answer, the rest of us are left wondering, speculating, and running our own tests. What I gather from my own SEO experiences and tests is that SEO hosting is real and the benefits of it are fairly strong. If SEO hosting wasn’t so pricey I’d have all of my sites running on it. Unfortunately I’m too cheap for that so I only have 5 of them running on it, including this site.

When I put my sites on the SEO hosting I noticed a fairly nice jump within 2 weeks on all my sites. I think the problem was that I had been doing massive linking between my sites but because they all shared the same C Class IP, Google was voiding the links. I was having a bit of a hard time with one of the local web design companies in Naples and I would pop into the #1 spot for “naples web design” in Google but then a few days later my competitor would steal it back. That’s when I decided to give it a go and try SEO hosting…I never lost #1 after that and I also shot up the ranks on my other 4 sites. Now that could be a coincidence or not but it made me a believer.
