There are two systems of thought when it comes to link building: one that suggest the use of automatic software and a second that states such programs threaten the very existence of your business in the search engines. The fact is there’s a third hybrid approach to using automated tools that suggests the use of tools to only finding potential backlinks sources without any automated link placements. The article follows this last concept and presents eight tools with a proven track record in uncovering good linking opportunities:

SEOBook toolkit of SEO tools. The following is a brief overview of the tools that make up the kit explaining how they can help you reach higher search engine rankings

The Hubfinder allows you to pinpoint the top competitors for any given keyword and also other websites performing well in that particular market. Once the potential recipients for backlinks are identified you can start building links manually. The Hubfinder is backed by Keyword Suggestion Tool. Even though not directly related to link building this tool offers indispensable data for identifying opportunities in the niche your targeting.

Keyword Suggestion Tool pulls data from multiple sources (Word Tracker, Google, Yahoo and Bid Prices) so that you make best decisions in terms of keyword targeting. As all respectable keyword research tools this one also offers related search terms, and related search results. Once you have your answers the data can be exported in a .csv file.

SEO for Firefox is a Firefox plugin that provides a detailed report for every webpage you’re considering getting a link on. Activating the plugin you are exposed to the following data:

web page PageRank;

site age;

total number of backlinks;

pretty accurate estimates of the toal number of .edu and .gov sites linking to the webpage;

bookmarking history on delicious.com;

total number of blogs referring the page;

Alexa ranking value;

the number of webpages Google has indexed for that site;

number of pages listed in DMOZ directory and if is or not listed in Yahoo directory;

number of subscribers (for blogs);

feature for searching the site in Whois.com database

Rank Checker – used with Firefox only. This awesome tool enables you to monitor how a particular web page is ranking for the given keywords. Used in conjunction with the keyword suggestion tool you can obtain valuable information about how you rank for other money keywords in your niche.

Yahoo! Site Explorer tool is mainly used to search for backlinks pointing to a specific webpage or domain name. Its usage can be extended to searching for specific linking opportunities on .edu, .gov sites for your targeted keywords. To know where your competition is getting their backlinks, simply type in “link:http://www.yourcompetitorsitename.com”. This will expose your competitor’s backlink portfolio. A good example of narrowing your search is this query “yourkeyword -.info -.gov .com”. This will find you relevant sites with .com extension but NOT .info or .org. Yahoo! Site Explorer is a versatile tool that must be present in any SEO arsenal, all the more so since it’s free.

Bad Neighborhood Tool. This is the tool of choice for those that want a 100% clean backlink portfolio. Webmasters are often tempted to populate their links in all web corners without differentiating the good associations from the bad. In order to avoid getting involved with link farms and other dodgy sites before requesting a backlink, submitting a site to a directory or blog commenting, run that prospective link source through bad-neighborhood tool.

SoloSEO Link Search Tool. Webmaster are well aware of how difficult is to find quality backlink sources. What this tool does is make your job less complicated. All you need to do is type in your keyword, press the Go button and bang!, Link search tool will give you a huge pile of candidates condensed in a 4-section repertoire – Add/Submit, Directories, Blogs and Forums, and Advanced. Take for example the keyword “hypnosis”. The Add/Submit section will give a partial list of websites the allow you to suggest/add your “hypnosis”-related URL. The Directories and Blogs and Forums do what they imply – deliver “hypnosis”-related blogs, forums and directories that support categories for this search term.

The Advanced sections lists the following search strings:

“allintitle” returns webpages with the keyword in the title.

“allinanchor” returns sites with the keyword in anchor text.

“allinurl” returns with the keyword in URL.

“allintext” returns webpages containing the keyword in the content.

Even though the tool absolves you from the manual labor of querying Google with tens of search strings, you must however weed through tons of junk results espeacilly when you are using keyword phrases. It’s better to stick with one-word keywords; if you happen to target long-tail keywords use, if possible, related single keywords.

Committed webmaster will find great use with these 7 link scouting tools . Even though automation at this off-site optimization stage can save you a great deal of time and manual work researching for backlinks sources, it’s advisable that exploiting the data and building the actual links to be done entirely by hand.

Everybody wants their website to rank highly in Google. The higher SERP you have, the more exposure you get, which equals more visitors who should translate into more customers.

We all know about keywords and their impact on achieving a higher SERP placement. If the word or phrase you are trying to rank with is a competitive one then this is where quality comes in. It doesn’t matter how many times your keyword of phrase appears on a page, Google has moved on from there. It got wise quite quickly to keyword stuffing, Alt text and all the other black hat tricks that webmaster were employing to get ranked higher.

Now the overall quality of the site is judged. Both by how often the site is updated, and how many inbound links there are. Those links are then in turn judged on how relevant to the site content they are and ranked accordingly.

If you want to give your site the best start possible there are a few things you can do.

Write a good page title between the tags for each page. It should accurately describe what’s going on each particular page.

Try and create new content each week. If you or the site owner can’t do that, get someone to do it for you. Continually evolving sites, with value being added regularly appear much higher on SERPs. Make the new contact good quality content, while wanting to appeal to a robot, your site also needs to appeal to human traffic.

Link to good quality relevant sites, and try and get reciprocal links back from them. Each relevant link to you is counted as a “vote” by Google. Every single one will count in getting the site higher.

Lastly, don’t be tempted to trick Google into placing you at the top. They employ teams of very, very clever people to program out as many tricks as possible. They also have a policy of “blacklisting” sites they think are trying to play the system. If you want to use Google, play by its rules. There are still plenty of legitimate ways of getting what you want.

The main thing to remember when designing a site to rank well is quality. Ignore the SERPs and concentrate on creating a useful, useable site with quality content. The quality is the element that will make it a success or not. It’s like businesses who concentrate on good customer service instead of the bottom line. Look after the customers, create a pleasing experience for them and the money will follow.

Thinking like Google for a moment. If you were a multi-billion dollar business whose reputation and profit came adverts shown with search engine results, would you want to be known for showing quality websites that fulfil the search criteria, or for returning sites that knew all the tricks? The reason Google works so well is because you get what you search for. If that changed and all of a sudden your search just returned amateur sites that you didn’t want, you would stop using it.

The key to a good SERP position is quality, not quantity.

It checks hundreds of different search engines and tells you all sorts of information. You can also generate “SEO Reports” for clients though I never do because I have the cheap version, if you want to generate reports the license is like $265 or something, I’d rather just call the client on the phone and save my money.

I used to use the free tool at forums.digitalpoint.com which is a huge webmaster forum. Unfortunely the tool is broken and the owner of the site is being sued by Amazon for cookie stuffing so he doesn’t really have much time to mess with his sites.

I’ll take a few screen shots of the tool for you to see below

It seems Google pushes me back a few spots every month for a few days before moving me back to #1. However, this is the first time I have ever seen RT go to #2, usually there is a company, which I’m not allowed to mention by name, in the #2 spot for naples web design. It remains to be seen weather or not the company which I can’t call by its name, will move back to #2 or not.

Anyway, as of now, RT Design holds #1 and #2.

Some of you may have read the post I made a couple weeks ago about taking #1-#10 for “naples seo” in Google. As of right now I think we’re holding #1 – #7, it’s hard because everytime I get it straight 1-8, some other site pops up and breaks the chain. It seems the sitepoint and netmedia ones are what’s messing it up for us. I actually think I don’t want to waste anymore time on this project because the payoff isn’t worth it. Let’s be honest, I’m not going to see an increase in traffic or leads by knocking out the last two spots for the search phrase, so why waste the time and effort?

Anyone, that’s about all I have to say for this post. I think I will create a new video blog today too, not sure what the topic will be though.

Google updated PageRank last night and I was going through our list of sites checking who gained/lost PR and I cam across an interesting thing where it appears I caught Google in the middle of adding sitelinks. Further explanation in the video.

To be very honest, I’m burned out with national SEO terms. Not only is it extremely hard to take national terms, the competition is with sites like wikipedia and it takes months to get #1 for something, unlike local SEO which can usually be done much faster. Just recently I lost #1 for the search term “petition” to wikipedia, such a bad feeling and honestly I’m not sure that I will try and win the #1 spot back. Most people are so used to seeing wikipedia in the search results they pay it no mind. Even if we do lose traffic to the wiki petition page, wikipedia isn’t a competing site so it really doesn’t matter, when they start hosting online petitions then I’ll worry about it.

Back on topic, I’m really excited to be in the local SEO market now, no more competing against the YouTubes and Wikipedias, the PR6, PR7, or higher behemoths. nope, now it’s mainly the mom and pop stores trying to rank for stuff like “naples lawn care” or “fort myers plumbing”, this is going to be like a much needed vacation.

I’ll post more soon, time for bed right now though.

The main site design is almost done, just a few little things to fix up. One of the tweaks is that scroll box you see with the pictures of past site designs, I want that to automatically scroll every 4 or 5 seconds. Other than that scroll box and a few places on the site with dead links, we are almost ready to start using it on all of our little niche specific sites. By niche specific I mean sites like Naples SEO and this site.

Almost everyone is suffering right now, the economy isn’t in the best of shape. Many companies are going out of business, from small mom and pops to huge multi-million dollar companies like Circuit City. Everyone is looking for new ways to make money, or ways to improve their current income stream. Marketing and advertising, especially web based, is one of the few areas of the economy that’s experiencing growth right now.

Our SEO leads are going through the roof now, people want to be ranked high in the search engines for their specific terms. If you’re a plumber in Naples, you want to be ranked 1st in Google for “naples plumber”, and that’s where we come in. You tell us your business and then we sit down and figure out what people are searching to find you.

There are really two ways of helping people find your website. First you can go with PPC which stands for “pay per click”. PPC is the ads you see along the right side of search engine results pages. It’s a fast way to jump to the top of the search results but it comes with a small issue, every time someone clicks you have to pay. Depending on what niche you’re in it may only be 3 or 4 cents per click. However, if you have a health related or legal related company you’ll find that you’re paying between $1 and $10 per click…yes EACH time someone clicks to your site you will have to pay that much money no matter if they buy something or turn around and leave. If you have deep pockets this can be a great option to go with where you will see immediate results.

For those of you who don’t have the kind of money to pay $1.00 or more for each visitor to your site, there is a second option. The second option is called “SEO” or search engine optimization. Basically its involves a few different things. The main goal is to get your site ranked in the top 3 search results for a given search terms. Again I’ll use the Naples Plumbing term. Say someone searches for “naples plumbing”, obviously you want to be the first site they see because the first site receives about 44% more traffic than the number 2 spot and the percentages keep falling from there. We will get you ranked for your term, different niches will cost different amounts. In other words, getting ranked for “naples real estate” is going to cost much more than getting ranked for “naples plumbing” because not only is the spot worth much more, there is a ton more competition. The attractive part of SEO is that you don’t have to pay everytime a visitor comes to your site, it’s a gift that keeps on giving.

If you’re interested in learning more, please visit our contact page and setup a free phone or in-person meeting and we will help you decide exactly what’s best for your situation.
