In essence, you are going to be slowly and meticulously adding links that are directed back to your site with certain keywords with the hopes of using all that “link juice” to start ranking in the search engines more and more. There is no such thing as ranking well in a search engine without gaining links. Google, especially, loves links. However, it is quality.

There are a few ways of building links for your site. We, at Atlanta Web Design, love to employ as many different tactics possible because it provides the best possible results for you. The goal is to get you to the top three ranking for your keyword because if you’re there, you’re going to be seen. Being seen is important and then being clicked is even more important. So, how can you build links? Here’s how:

Use article marketing. Here you can write an article pertaining to your niche, submit it to the big article directories (Ezine Articles) and then in the about the author section, link back to your site. Voila, you’ve just got some links. If other people use the article, you’ve got even more links.

Post on forums. Forum posting is a tremendous way to build links. Throw your site into your signature and then start posting on forums. Not only will be people come check out your site, but the search engines will count that as some links and that’ll push some more traffic.

Buy them. Google penalizes for the purchase of links and they catch people because the links are bought on sites that are NOT IN YOUR NICHE. Don’t buy a link from a site that isn’t in the same niche as your site. But, go right ahead and buy a link on a similar niche site. Google will actually love that.

Leave some blog comments. Similar to the forum posting, you can leave blog comments (with your keyword as your name) which will help you to rank more and more. A lot of blogs these days also have a “top five commentators” section on their blog that sends even more link juice to you.

These are just four of the hundreds of ways you can build links, but they are notorious for being the most successful. If you do article marketing, it can be a successful and effective way of getting content out (none from your site) that can build you links. You want to be known as a professional and this is one way. So, when you’ve developed the keywords you want to rank for (another article for another time), the next step is to start build links.

Contrary to popular belief, building links isn’t some tedious process that requires tons of directory submissions, article writing, and exchanging links with people. The truth is, if you can take thirty minutes a day and dedicate that entire time to building links to your site, what you’ll find is that after a month, you’ll have a ton of links. After two or three months, the different keywords you’d be ranking for would really start doing well.

The first thing to do when doing the thirty minutes a day link building strategy is to write down on a piece of paper the different keywords you want to rank well for. You want to try and achieve the different long tail keywords as well as spend some time ranking for those more competitive keywords. However, that’s a different topic for a different time. Write down your keywords and then determine how many links, roughly, you want to gain for each keyword. Once you figure that out, do these following steps:

Blog commenting. Find a couple of blogs in your niche and start posting with the keyword as your name. First read the actual post, though, or get an idea on what it is about so that when you leave a comment, the admin of the site approves it. Leave a different keyword on each site so that you can keep coming back each day on each site to post a different comment with the same keyword.

Directory submission. Start submitting your site to different directories. This is the timely part of the process because you need to find the directories. Google a list of directories, though, and you’ll find a ton. Find the ones where you can put multiple keywords and link to inner pages. Trying to get deep links is tremendously important to truly ranking in the search engines for different keywords.

Article submission. Take the remaining ten to fifteen minutes and write a quick four hundred word article. Make sure the grammar is good. Submit it to Ezine Articles or any of the other large article directories. Put two of the keywords you want to rank for in your author box and then change it up each and every day. Do one a day.

If you were to do five blog comments and ten directory submissions plus an article a day, you’d have gained a ton of links by the end of the month. You’d have one hundred and fifty links from blogs, three hundred directory links, and sixty links from articles. That took you, in total, thirty minutes a day, yet you built a ton of links for your site. The traffic you’d gain would be great from this. You just need to do it!

Often times, when you’re trying to build links, figuring out the proper tactic can be tremendously frustrating. Do you spend your time trying to submit your site to directories or do you spend time commenting on different blog articles hoping to obtain your links? The truth is, these are all feasible methods of link building and should all be implemented at different times in your link building campaign. However, one of the first things you should be doing is using article marketing to build links.

Article marketing is the technique in which you write an article that is not already posted on your site and then submit it to an article directory such as Ezine Articles. In return for giving the site a unique article, you get a short little author resource box at the bottom that is useful in giving you the effective backlink that you want for your site. As I have said in previous articles: backlinks are one of the best ways to rank high in the search engines, so get them as often as you can.

Ezine Articles is one of the highest ranked websites on the web, so what you gain when you submit the article is a rush of traffic since the article will appear on the front page for a little while. On top of that rush of traffic, you also gain the strength of the backlink. In essence, one of the top sites is linking to you, so that is going to obviously help you rank powerfully in the search engines. It can help push you from the third/fourth page to the first page just by publishing a series of these articles.

I mentioned earlier in the article that it was important to use a unique article that you had written specifically for article marketing. The reason I mention this is because Google likes to see unique content. In regards to a massive site like Ezine Articles, they don’t really care about a semi-unique article or not so long as the article is yours. However, if you’re taking the article from your site, it won’t appear good to Google when the exact same article is appearing on your site as well as Ezine Articles. So, take the time to write a unique article for your article marketing.

One final thing to keep in mind is that the better the quality, the better your rankings will be. Not only are you catering to the large article directories, but you’re also catering to anyone that comes to these directories looking for content. They will take the article and, if they follow the rules, post the article on their site with the resource box linking back to your site. This is the real reason article marketing rocks. It gets you a ton of backlinks. So, if you’re going to do it, do it effectively and do it with quality. The results are too great to pass up.
