Contrary to popular belief, building links isn’t some tedious process that requires tons of directory submissions, article writing, and exchanging links with people. The truth is, if you can take thirty minutes a day and dedicate that entire time to building links to your site, what you’ll find is that after a month, you’ll have a ton of links. After two or three months, the different keywords you’d be ranking for would really start doing well.

The first thing to do when doing the thirty minutes a day link building strategy is to write down on a piece of paper the different keywords you want to rank well for. You want to try and achieve the different long tail keywords as well as spend some time ranking for those more competitive keywords. However, that’s a different topic for a different time. Write down your keywords and then determine how many links, roughly, you want to gain for each keyword. Once you figure that out, do these following steps:

Blog commenting. Find a couple of blogs in your niche and start posting with the keyword as your name. First read the actual post, though, or get an idea on what it is about so that when you leave a comment, the admin of the site approves it. Leave a different keyword on each site so that you can keep coming back each day on each site to post a different comment with the same keyword.

Directory submission. Start submitting your site to different directories. This is the timely part of the process because you need to find the directories. Google a list of directories, though, and you’ll find a ton. Find the ones where you can put multiple keywords and link to inner pages. Trying to get deep links is tremendously important to truly ranking in the search engines for different keywords.

Article submission. Take the remaining ten to fifteen minutes and write a quick four hundred word article. Make sure the grammar is good. Submit it to Ezine Articles or any of the other large article directories. Put two of the keywords you want to rank for in your author box and then change it up each and every day. Do one a day.

If you were to do five blog comments and ten directory submissions plus an article a day, you’d have gained a ton of links by the end of the month. You’d have one hundred and fifty links from blogs, three hundred directory links, and sixty links from articles. That took you, in total, thirty minutes a day, yet you built a ton of links for your site. The traffic you’d gain would be great from this. You just need to do it!

I was really hoping for a PR6 for this site but so far it hasn’t moved from a PR5. I 301′d a lot of smaller sites to this one too, including fortmyerswebdesign.org but I may have not given Google enough time to compensate for the redirect. Oh well, better luck next time I guess.

Google has finally decided to start advertising their Chrome Web Browser on the homepage of Google. Until now the only people who knew about it were mostly the tech types. Now with them putting it on the homepage for all types of users to see, their userbase will diversify.

I do have the chrome browser but I rarely use it because they have no plugins for it, so I stay mostly with FireFox. That being said, Chrome IS the best browser I have ever used. Chrome is faster than Opera, more stable than FireFox or IE, it’s simply the best all around browser. Did I mention it’s fast? Very fast.

The quality of browsers, at least in my opinion is:

Chrome

Opera

FireFox

Internet Explorer

The reason I use FireFox when it’s just above IE as the best browser in terms of quality, speed, and stability is simple: plugins

I just can’t live without my FireFox plugins. The day Google lets Chrome have plugins is the day I will leave FireFox forever. So in case you’re wondering what plugins I use that I can’t live without and that force me to use a browser that’s only the 3rd best, here they are:

SEO Quake – A nice little plugin that shows me all sorts of information about a website under the Google Search results. example

@ NoFollow, Google PR, and Alexa ranking – A nice little plugin that tells me Alexa, PR, and NoFollow tags. example

AdBlock – This amazing plugin keeps me from seeing ads on any page I go to. That’s it, no ads, ever, on any website. Not only do ads slow down page load time but they are usually the source of nasty viruses and spyware. My life as a whole improved after installing AdBlock. Considering I make a nice bit of money each month on Google Adsense, it’s a bit hypocritical of me to use this plugin, oh well. I also wonder if Google would ever let such a plugin to be used on their browser, considering their entire company is based on online ads, I think the answer is no. If the choice is between using a subpar web browser(firefox) that has AdBlock or the best and fastest web browser (chrome) that doesn’t have AdBlock, I’ll go with FireFox any day.

Yep, Google updated their PageRank sometime last night to the delight of webmasters worldwide. PageRank is one of the most asked about topics on webmaster forums. Sometimes I think Google created PR to keep newbie and even seasoned webmasters and SEOers off balance. In reality Google PR doesn’t mean anything. You can very easily outrank a PR5 site with a PR1 site. Let’s see if we can find an example.

If you search Google for “naples web design” you can clearly see a PR6 site down the list about halfway, being out ranked by PR5’s and lower. Here’s a picture of the result, as you can see this PR6 is easily beaten by PR2’s. So then why all the fuss of PR you ask? I don’t know.

So should you be worried about PR? I’d say no, not really. It’s always nice to have some PR, sort of like a visual indicator that Google approves of what you’re doing. In reality though PR is meaningless. I’ve seen PR0’s and PR1’s with Google authority or sitelinks. By Google giving sitelinks to PR0’s and PR1’s they’re basically telling you straight up that PageRank means nothing. So my advice is to stop focusing on PageRank and worry more about other factors.
