A good example of PPC can be seen here, if you look on the right side of the page you’ll see Google Adwords which is PPC. The term I searched for in that picture is “real estate” so it’s safe to figure those sites are paying at least $4 or $5 every time someone clicks an ad. It’s probably closer to $10 but we’ll call it $5 to be on the safe side.

So you’re thinking “wow, that’s a lot of money to pay for 1 visitor that may just come to my page and leave”, and you’re 100% correct. Sometimes PPC is the only way to break into a niche. Real estate is a good example of that, very few SEO people have the skills or resources to break into the top 10. I suppose it’s more about resources than it is about skill, it takes so much content, links, and coding to make a site worthly of being in the top 10 search results for a term like real estate that most SEOers just can’t compete. The few that do have the money and resources to compete would NEVER get this term for a client because the term is just too valuable, if they were to get it that would get it for themself and rake in the millions.

That’s not to say all PPC is expensive, most real estate terms are expensive and there’s no getting around that, even something like “naples real estate” is going to cost a few bucks per click but that’s because the real estate is naturally an expensive one to compete in. Getting your ad shown for something like “naples lawn care” is going to cost MUCH less. I’d guess you can probably score a nice ad for such a term at around $0.25 per click, not too bad.

In my opinion SEO(search engine optimization) is far superior to PPC for a few reasons. First, it’s free. Well not exactly “free” because youu have to pay money in the beginning to have someone come in and get you ranked, but after you’re ranked then you will usually hold your rank for at least 6+ months depending on how competitive that niche is. If the niche is competitive then you will need to come back in and do some freshening up, maybe add some new content or something to keep it fresh. Another reason I like SEO better is because many people are ad-blind. In other words, they mentally ignore ads. If you search Google or Yahoo constantly, chances are you’ve become accustom to the ads and you tend to ignore them when you search for something.

So in my opinion, unless you cant break into the niche because it’s too competitive or you don’t feel like hiring an SEO person, there isn’t much other reason to use PPC. Some people actually use both PPC and SEO, If you have the money and really want to get your name out there, you can’t beat SEO and PPC at the same time.

If you would like a free price quote for either SEO or PPC management, feel free to contact me or visit our site for more information.

To be very honest, I’m burned out with national SEO terms. Not only is it extremely hard to take national terms, the competition is with sites like wikipedia and it takes months to get #1 for something, unlike local SEO which can usually be done much faster. Just recently I lost #1 for the search term “petition” to wikipedia, such a bad feeling and honestly I’m not sure that I will try and win the #1 spot back. Most people are so used to seeing wikipedia in the search results they pay it no mind. Even if we do lose traffic to the wiki petition page, wikipedia isn’t a competing site so it really doesn’t matter, when they start hosting online petitions then I’ll worry about it.

Back on topic, I’m really excited to be in the local SEO market now, no more competing against the YouTubes and Wikipedias, the PR6, PR7, or higher behemoths. nope, now it’s mainly the mom and pop stores trying to rank for stuff like “naples lawn care” or “fort myers plumbing”, this is going to be like a much needed vacation.

I’ll post more soon, time for bed right now though.
